Frequently Asked Questions
We often get asked the same questions by most clients. Here’s a list to help out. Of course, you can call also.
1. Where is your studio?
We don’t work out of a studio. All our photography is done on location. For outdoor portraits, we will meet at one of the area’s many scenic spots, parks, etc. If you prefer the more traditional look of a studio portrait, we will bring the studio to you. We can typically set up lights and a backdrop at your home to get the look you want. Who knows? Maybe in the future we’ll open a storefront studio, but not yet.
2. Can I get the digital files from my portrait session?
Absolutely! With any of our packages, we will give you low-resolution copies of the photos you choose to have printed. These are perfect for uploading to Facebook or emailing to friends and family. If you would like to receive the high resolution retouched images from your portrait session, they may be purchased with our higher level packages at an additional cost.
3. How long is a family portrait session?
We have three types of family sessions. Our basic session is about 15 minutes, our silver level session is about 20-30 minutes and our gold level session is usually 45 minutes to one hour.
4. How many photos do you take for a family session?
Just like the time estimate, it depends on the session type you choose. We may take between 20 and 25 photos for the basic session, but edit that to between 3 and 5 final images. The longer sessions will produce more photos. Don’t worry, there will be plenty from which to choose for prints. For our Candid sessions, we take a metric ton of photos. The additional cost of this session type accounts for the amount of work after the session we do to process, select and edit what is normally between 150 and 200 photos. The final selection is much less, but there will still be plenty of photos for you to choose.
5. Do you have specials or coupons to bring the price down?
There are two ways to receive information about promotions we run. 1.) Subscribe to this website to be informed of new blog posts. Since we always make a blog entry about our promotions, it’s a great way to be informed. 2.) Give our Facebook page a Like! Our Facebook page is another place where we post details about promotions as well as announcing last minute specials.
6. How will I see the photos from my session? Do you use an online gallery?
We have found over the years that it’s a lot easier to pick photos in person. At your session, we will set a time for us to meet and go through the photos. Online galleries just don’t give the personal level of service we prefer to give when it comes to picking family heirlooms. After you have chosen the photos for your album and enlargements, we will make an online gallery available so your family can place orders for prints. These are great for extended family who may want current photos, but live out of the area. They can place an order for prints and we will mail them out, saving you time (and money).
7. How long does it take to get prints back once I order them?
Allow for up to ten days for us to place the order with the lab, have it printed and shipped via UPS ground. Once we receive them, every print is inspected to make sure it’s perfect. We’ll then deliver to your home. If you’re on a time crunch, we can order a rush on the printing as well as expedited shipping from the lab. If you need this service, additional fees will apply. Price will vary with the requirements.
8. Your session fees include travel throughout the Sacramento metropolitan area. What if I want you to do a family session out of the area?
We can do that. We have additional fees to account for travel and time. We try to keep them reasonable and of course the cost will depend on where we travel to. Travel within the Sacramento area includes West to Davis, East to El Dorado Hills/Cameron Park, North to Lincoln and South to Elk Grove. Imagine a large circle around these points and you have the Sacramento metro region.
Periodically, we make family portraits in Tahoe, at the beach, in San Francisco or elsewhere. Just ask!
